Belron projects

Belron® funds

The partnership of Belron® is invaluable to MaAfrika Tikkun. The £2million we have raised over the years has been used to build community centres and provide a wide range of programmes for children and their families ranging from home based care, feeding programmes, pre-schools, after-school activities, life skills training and emergency relief which have in turn enabled MaAfrika Tikkun to equip vulnerable children and young people to see a way out of their impoverished situation by giving them hope for their future.Three yound people benefitting from MaAfrika Tikkun

This year we have chosen to support the programmes aimed at school going children and youth (children aged 6-19).  Young people are at the forefront of the government’s agenda for development in South Africa.  These children are increasingly at risk due to critical social issues on the streets such as drugs, teenage pregnancy, gangsterism, HIV/AIDS, violence and crime.  MaAfrika Tikkun is providing after-school activities aimed at keeping kids off the streets, educating them about these issues and encouraging them to make a stand against them.  Over 3,000 children are enrolled in their programmes across five townships.  In this way MaAfrika Tikkun believes it can play a vital role in helping South Africa to lift itself out of a spiral of poverty and disease.

Child and Youth Development programme
OBJECTIVE  = To keep the children off the streets and in the process, invest appropriate skills and knowledge that will ensure the development of healthy self- esteem, pro-social skills, and the drive and ability to realise their inherent potential.

MaAfrika Tikkun’s Child and Youth Development programme tackles youth issues from thee angles:

Access to Knowledge: by providing access to knowledge through learning support programmes, functional libraries, computer literacy programmes and life skills programmes, MaAfrika Tikkun is able to engage with the kids, broaden their knowledge and enable them to make informed decisions about how to make a stand against the social ills surrounding them.

Sports and Recreation: Through multiple sports programmes in partnership with various organisations and celebrities, they engage the kids in physical activity to occupy their energies and ensure their physical well being.  One of the sports programmes

Career Path Development: The final goal is to give the kids a future to look forward to by providing opportunity and guidance towards a tertiary education or employment.
